BOOKS FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS
ON THE SECOND WORLD WAR

Drawing up a comprehensive list is difficult as everyone will have their own personal favourites. Teachers and librarians will also be very helpful in choosing titles. Here are some titles and authors drawn up by Exeter Central Library.  At the end of the list are some personal favourites and also a web site where you can read what other 10 - 15 year olds thought about some of the books.

OTHER USEFUL RESOURCES
British Children's Literature and the Second World War
, Owen Dudley Edwards, Edinburgh University Press, 2003
Edwards discusses children's radio, comics, films and book-related play-activity in relation to value systems, the child's perspective versus the adult's perspective, the development of sophistication, and the retention and loss of pre-war attitudes and their post-war fate. British literature is set in a wider context through a consideration of what British writing reached the U.S.A., and vice versa, and through an exploration of wartime Europe as it was shown.
